A Good Visit

In the backyard with Grandma. She and Grandpa came to see us for the first time in our new home, spending a nice weekend in Peterborough.

Yanks vs. Rays

Over 54,000 on hand to see the Rays trounce the Yankees, 7-1.

Upper Deck

The view from our seats.

Yankee Stadium

You tell yourself that since you don't like the Yankees, and because the place was basically rebuilt in 1976 and little remains of the park that hosted Ruth, Gehrig, Dimaggio et al., and that since it's likely over-hyped simply because New York is the centre of the world, you probably won't feel anything when you visit Yankee Stadium. And yet...

Rain Out

The rain never let up, the tarp never came off the field, and not a single player emerged from the clubhouse. The game was called and rescheduled for the next day, when we had Yankees tickets. So we'll never see any baseball played at Shea Stadium. Nevertheless, the footlong hotdog was good, the beer was cold, and the conversation was excellent. Thanks, Dad.

Shea Stadium

Sign in the far reaches of the left field upper deck at Shea where Agee hit a homerun against the expansion Expos in '69. To turn and face home plate is to marvel that a human being could hit a ball so far.

Quaker Park Tennis Club

Tennis players near the Quaker Oats plant, downtown Peterborough.

Off to NYC for a couple of days; back next week with the photographic evidence.

Old Walt

ADF, CC, Gran and Poppa next to the Whitman memorial, Bon Echo Provincial Park (I was paddling next to them in a kayak).

Mazinaw Rock

Poppa, Gran, CC and ADF in a rented canoe, Mazinaw Lake, taking in The Canadian Gibraltar.

Skipping

As we walked the trails at Bon Echo, ADF (riding on my back, in the kid carrier) began singing a song that made CC want to skip.

Camping at Bon Echo

Spent a very soggy weekend camping at Bon Echo. Here's ADF at the campsite.

Cottage, Labour Day Weekend

The perfect weekend: ADF and CC lounge in the hammock.

Goodbye, summer.

Catching Up

Soon after we said goodbye to Jo, Nirm came for a visit. That's her with the camera, and that's her umbrella that ADF is coyly twirling for the cameras.

Nirm has great boots.

We took her to the train station -- getting there in the nick of time -- and saw her off.

The train was loud. From there, we went to the cottage for the last great weekend of the summer.
